Our Debate Program is a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students to be fearless and effective communicators. Our Debate Program follows New York Times bestselling author Josh Kaufman’s targeted reinforcement philosophy. This method pairs quality content with effective practice. Students participating in the JFK Debate Society will learn how to confidently compete against their talented American peers in all forms of communication (boarding school & college application interviews, World Scholar’s Cup, Model UN conferences & other competitive events). Students will master the ability to quickly make the works of the world’s best thinkers their own and express it in their own color to defeat even the toughest competition. Our previous students have placed 1st & 2nd at WSC global rounds & Yale University’s Tournament of Champions.
Students in each level will practice verbal presentation twice in each class with personalized feedback in between. True improvement will take place every class as students learn to habitually recognize and correct weaknesses in front of their peers.
The course will focus on improving the following:
- Effective CommunicationThe ability to speak clearly is one of the top 3 critical skills prestigious universities and Fortune 500 companies look for in candidates.
- Public SpeakingPublic speaking is the one number fear in America. It was also the key area of competency for historical giants like Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. Modern leaders such as Bill Clinton and Barack Obama also exhibit the same quality.
- PersuasionThe ability to engage an audience and win supporters is the crucial for success both in school and beyond.
- Confidence Speaking forces students to confront their fears and become comfortable with change. It’s an important skill that helps students navigate the ever-changing landscape of modern life.
